Ben Currie set for Scotland!
The last few weeks have been really good. Plenty of time at home, plenty of rest, and doubling down on a good three weeks of solid training during the break. Going from race to race, you can't get into a really good flow of training, so it's good to have these little breaks every now and then and top up on some fitness. I’ve been working really hard with my trainer Kirk down in Derby, we’ve just been getting after it and getting in a really good place.
Kirk Gibbons, Personal Coach: “What I first noticed working with Ben is that he attacked his training because he's aggressive. And the key for any sport, especially motorcycle racing, is that it’s all about controlled aggression. With Ben we’ve nurtured that aggression, teaching him to control the aggression. So, he uses that, but also at the same time we've got to be focused. So, we do a lot of focus training together. With the endurance he’s got it's going to enable him to ride a whole race being strong, knowing that towards the end of the race when he’s stepping the tempo up, others around him won’t be able to do that. And if some can, he's always got more in the tank. It's all about believing that and working towards that. And Ben is doing that perfectly.
It’s awesome to see the improvements in him. Week in week out, month in, month out. It takes me three seasons to get an athlete where I truly want them. And this is only my second season with Ben so imagine what he’ll be like next year! He’s doing great. I’m proud of him. I’ll be talking to him leading up to the race this weekend as always and reminding him of the ability he's got within himself both physically and mentally, to go out and execute how he knows he can”
So, I'm feeling really good going into Knockhill. Last year it didn't provide the greatest results for us, but I'm super eager to turn that around. I feel like we've got a really good bike that can work really well there. When we were there last year, the bike was very early in its development stages for us, so I would say we're going to be a lot more equipped to compete this time round.
I love it up there in Scotland, it always brings back good memories. I got my first supersport win there as well. It’s really good happy hunting ground for me and I think the whole nature of the circuit is brilliant. The last sector makes for some great racing as well into the hairpin. So yeah, I love everything about Knockhill and I’m looking forward to getting up there and sending it!
“We have known and supported Ben for five years now, and every year he has exceeded our expectations in every way. He is the epitomy of a dedicated professional sportsman in every aspect of his approach to racing. Quite aside from that he is at his very heart, a genuine and easily likeable man and this has led us to employ Ben at John F Hunt, working in our Water Tech division.
Last year was a dream season for Ben but we know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. He is destined for great things, not just on track but in his wider life. It’s a pleasure to know him.”
David Hunt - Managing Director, John F Hunt Power
“Ben is such a dedicated, hard-working, and professionally minded person both on the track and off it, watching him grow over the last five years has been remarkable and it has been a privilege to support him on this journey long may it continue. The start to this season has been good and the team is giving him a strong bike to be out there contending with so hats off to everyone involved. Good Luck for the coming weekend at Knockhill from us all here at John F Hunt Power.”
