Onward to Oulton for Ben Currie’s home round
The Bennetts British Superbike Championship sets off to Oulton Park this week for the two-day R&G Official Test (1-2nd May), which is then followed by the Round 2 race weekend (4-6th May).
Ben Currie heads to the 2.7 mile Cheshire circuit having won the last British Supersport race at the opening round in Navarra. And the last time Ben was at Oulton Park on the Ducati V2 he qualified in pole and went on to score a double podium, so feelings ahead of this weekend are definitely positive for the Australian racer.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing in the UK after the Navarra opener. Oulton Park is familiar territory for me, being fairly local as it’s only half an hour down the road.
Oulton is one of the top UK tracks for me, with loads of character. It’s got up and down undulations, banked corners, tight corners, super-fast corners, and heavy braking. It’s one of those places that’s literally got everything. Touch wood, every time it's the May bank holiday weekend it's normally good weather and the crowds are absolutely packed. I really want to put on a good show for everyone there.
Whenever I’m racing at Oulton Park, with it being so close to me, friends and family always make the trip over which I’m so grateful for. I have a lot more support at that circuit, and I always feel like I have that added little bit of home race pressure to contend with. But I absolutely love it!
I’ve had some awesome results here in the past and I’m really looking forward to getting back on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati V2. The Supersport class are at the R&G Official Test on Thursday, with three sessions to get back up to speed. And I'm looking forward to dialling in our new settings into this track to get a good comfortable feeling ahead of the race weekend.
I know Wilf has done some awesome stuff in the meantime since Navarra, looking at the data and crunching the numbers, and there are some things he wants to try coming into the test. I’m excited to find out exactly what they are, make a plan, then go and execute this weekend. Really looking forward to it.”
